NAME :  Sara Crookdake

CURRENT JOB :
Support Broker - supporting adults with autism to obtain personal/individual budgets.

YEARS WORKING IN ADULT SOCIAL CARE :
15 years

HOW DID YOU GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW ?
My interest in autism began when I studied for a  Psychology degree at Newcastle University. On completion of my degree I applied for a job with the National Autistic Society. I worked with them for 14 years supporting adults with autism. After training as a person centred planning facilitator I applied for the role of support broker in Bury.

WHAT HAVE BEEN YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGES?
Change is always a big challenge. After working with  a fantastic group of colleagues for 14 years, it was difficult saying goodbye and learning about a whole new social care system.

WHAT HAVE BEEN YOUR INSPIRATIONS?
The people I have supported and their families . I continue to be amazed every day and my interest and enthusiasm for my job never changes.

HOW HAVE YOU MADE THE TRANSITION BETWEEN JOBS/ROLES?
I took up the post of support broker after wining NAS the tender to run the project.Whilst I have missed my old team and colleagues I have found the team from Bury Council equally as supportive, particularly the Self Directed Support team.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE LOOKING TO PROGRESS THEIR CAREER IN CARE?
I would always advise never to give up, be prepared to be flexible and enjoy every moment.
